Round 6 Wrap Up – Flinders Uni v USC Lion

The boys travelled to Flinders Uni on Saturday and both teams needed to bounce back after the week before results but was always going to be tough at Flinders with there B Grade 1st and ther A Grade 2nd on the ladder.

B Grade – The boys started really well and was competitive against the top team and was pushing the ball around well and creating chances in the first half. As the first half progressed Flinders took the lead but good sign was the Lion boys stuck to the game plan and created several chances and really pushed Flinders in the 1st half and deserved there equaliser through Brett McCarthy with a long range shot ( to powerfull for the keeper) and teams went in at 1-1. To the 2nd half and seems to be the same story all year for the B Grade that the boys lost shape and confidence and Flinders started to take control of the game and ran out comfortable winners in the end 5-1. Best on ground for the B Grade was Mark Crossman. Keep working hard boys and the results will come.

A Grade – We had a couple of boys out and a few back like skipper Magnus and the boys knew it was a big game to get back on track after last week and to keep pace with the top teams. We started well and the game was very even in the 1st Half and both teams created chances. Lion went behind after another defensive error and Flinders took full advantage of it and made us pay to the boys credit we didn’t drop our heads and got back into the contest and we ran out the 1st half and went in 1 nil down. We had a good team talk at half time and we needed to work on a few things and we started 2nd half passing and moving the ball around well. Same as 1st Half game was even with Flinders trying to kill the game off and Lion trying to get back into it. Both keepers made some good saves in the 2nd Half  the Flinders keeper pulled of a brillant save to deny Bruno the equaliser but same as most weeks we gave away a soft 2nd Goal and Flinders lead 2-nil them we made a few tactical changes player wise and position and we dug deep to get back in the game and Magnus came up with a great goal to get us back to 2-1 with 5 minutes to play and then we gave away a silly goal to Flindrs and they ran out 3-1 winners. So thats back to back losses for the A Grade and we need to turn that around this week with  a better team effort and get rid of our mistakes and the results will come. We now sit 4th on the ladder and need 3 points this week against Murray Bridge to get the season back on trap with a very tough Cup Game the week after against Fulham United a Sunday Div 1 side but i’m very confident we will get a result and keep alive in the Cup. Best on Ground for the A Grade was Magnus.
